The Manhattan Beach Pier lit up Wednesday night, with strings of lights, a green tree of lights atop the aquarium and wishes of Season's Greetings strung across Manhattan Beach Blvd. It was the 26th annual Pier Lighting Ceremony, and the 21st annual holiday open house, complete with a contest for the most decorative holiday storefront.
Residents showed up in full force, breaking out the holiday sweaters and flooding the pier with glee. One of Santa's reindeer was even spotted greeting kids on Manhattan Ave.
Rolling Hills Flower Mart on Manhattan Ave. took the "Best Overall" winner's spot for this year's holiday open house window contest. Deemed "truly elegant and the most stunning of them all" by the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business and Professional Association, the Rolling Hills Flower Mart boasted snow drifting down from its rooftop and a life-sized floral gown, fit for a Rose Bowl parade.
Manhattan Denim on Manhattan Ave. was named "Most Unique" for its groovy real-life dancers decked out in denim and sequins and afro 'dos, bringing the party.
There were three honorable mentions, recognized for their innovative displays. Growing Wild on Highland Ave. looked lovely with floral wreaths, garland and red flowers abound. Trilogy Spa in Metlox Plaza played Charlie Brown's Christmas on the roof, and Cielo Salon on Manhattan Ave. displayed a "Lover Boy" masked man in their window with a "call me" sign.
