Since closing its doors in Redondo Beach in 2014, Mysterious Galaxy has maintained a presence in the beach cites with pop-up events and collaborations with libraries and businesses. It still operates its original location in San Diego.
Now, the company is opening a new, smaller brick and mortar location in the South Bay called Creating Conversations. The idea is to not just have a shop with books, but to curate events centered on authors and publishers.
Owner Terry Gilman, who recently held events at the Belamar Hotel and at Tin Roof Bistro, stacks signed books from previous events as well as those featured in upcoming 'conversations.'
“They either represent books that I love, basically current books that I read three or four months ahead,” Gilman said. “I'm curating a list of fiction and non-fiction. Gilman also hand-picks new releases she likes with an eye for the next popular indie book.
In April, she celebrated the 10th anniversary of Ladies Lunch and Literacy at Tin Roof Bistro with author Madeline Miller.
“We’ve had some pretty stellar authors over the years,” Gilman said.
Creating Conversations, located at 2850 Artesia Blvd. No. 101, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment.
