Mother Hips

The Mother Hips perform at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015.

A new date has yet to be announced for the postponed BeachLife Festival, but festival officials still plan on having a musical summer with a new online series.

This week, festival officials announced the launch of the monthly SpeakEasy Summer Series, a streaming event named after the new festival stage that was planned for this year where musicians were set to play acoustic versions of their music.

The first show will take place at 5 p.m. June 25 and will feature G Love, who was on the lineup for this year’s show, plus singer/songwriter Mondo Cozmo, Huntington Beach singer Matt Costa, and San Francisco rockers The Mother Hips.

The free event also aims to highlight local businesses that have re-opened during the pandemic.

The first local business guest will be Tyler Gugliotta, the executive chef at Baran’s 2239 in Hermosa Beach.  Gugliotta will be joined by pro surfer Morgan Sliff.

While the streaming event is free, viewers will be encouraged to donate to the Surfrider Foundation.

BeachLife previously streamed some performances May 1 on what would have been the first day of the festival.

Originally set to take place May 1-3 at Redondo Beach’s Seaside Lagoon, like other major events, the festival was postponed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

No new date has been announced for the festival.
