Two men found dead on Torrance Beach more than a month ago died from accidental drug overdoses, coroner’s officials said.

The two men, identified as 34-year-old Brian Rodriguez of Redondo Beach and 22-year-old Daniel Alarid, were found dead on the beach, near the 300 block of Paseo de la Playa, by a passerby the morning of Aug. 30, officials said.

Alarid was a transient, according to coroner’s officials.

The two men died from overdoses involving fentanyl, said Sarah Ardalani, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. Rodriguez also had methamphetamine in his system, according to the coroner’s report.

The discovery of the bodies startled residents who were out for a morning stroll along the beach. Many looked on as Torrance police investigated the scene for nearly six hours following the discovery. Police said early on there were no obvious signs of trauma to the bodies.
