Christmas is better on the beach — and no town proves that more than Manhattan Beach.
The city kicked off the first December weekend with the annual Skechers Manhattan Beach Fireworks Show on the pier Sunday evening, Dec. 8.
The annual event began as a way for local business leaders to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season by giving something back to Manhattan Beach residents, and has since grown into a full-fledged festival.
The streets surrounding the pier were shut down around 2 p.m. to make room for the many festivities leading up to the fireworks including a display of the Santa float and musical performances by the Mira Costa Jazz Ensemble and Joe’s Band.
Around 7 p.m., the December night sky lit alive with explosive colors that dazzled in the eyes of onlookers.
Fireworks turned the dark, looming clouds into luminescent canvases overlooking the beach.
