It wasn't until Paola Franco started organizing her own wedding in 2012 that she discovered her passion for event planning.
After planning her big day with the help of business partner Sandra Favero, who specialized in kids parties, Franco decided to put her finance background to work.
In May, the duo opened Say I Do Party Shop in Redondo Beach. The shop carries premium party supplies and offers planning services for events from weddings to children’s parties to baby showers.
Franco and Favero, both born in Brazil, said the store is the “fruit of the labor” of their five-year collaboration in event planning.
“I used to, back in the day, sell Crepe on a Stick at street fairs. I always knew I wanted to own my own business and I tried out a few things,” Franco explained.
Say I Do Party Shop opened after Franco was driving down Artesia Boulevard and saw rental space.
At first, she considered it for office space, but since it was designated retail, the business duo decided to open a retail store featuring premium party supplies—unlike anything found at the local Party City outlet.
“We are so excited about this part of the business. Long term, our goal is to open a kid’s party facility that is high-end, and caterers to both adults and kids,” said Franco.
“The most popular item at the store that we sell often, is our mini Unicorn Pinata,” she relates. Despite a price point of $22, she noted they “sell like crazy.”
“Our most popular service is our Kid's All Inclusive Party. A flat rate for a package that includes invitations, favors, dessert table, and decor, along with fresh flowers and more,” Franco explained, adding that her business’ best asset is “our customer service.”
Other popular services and products include balloon installations—which are offered for business events as well as parties; a “Party in a Box,” and rental options of curated party themes for customers who want to create a party on their own. Those options can be found on Franco and Favero’s website injoytheparty.com.
“Our space on Artesia is available for rent for photoshoots, workshops for people teaching things like calligraphy or watercolor painting, and is also available for rent for small private events such as baby and bridal showers,” Franco added.
On Feb. 10, the store will be host a Valentine's Day Pop Up Shop, with multiple vendors collaborating, each selling their own crafts.
“A bunch of small businesses come together to put the event together. We will have an amazing calligrapher that will write hand-written notes, a local florist, gourmet truffles from @simplybrigadeiro, a styled backdrop with Valentine theme for pictures, a photo booth bus for fun pictures. Guests can enjoy free Nutella crepes from Crepe Bonaparte and coffee from the Coffee Cart, and purchase Valentine's Day balloons,” she adds. Dom with @thisisgoodmood will offer DJ services.
The business operates Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the partners are available virtually anytime, Franco noted, by appointment.
