The couple were taken into custody shortly after the 12:50 a.m. shooting at an apartment in the 500 block of The Esplanade.
The couple were using a pellet gun to shoot at a target in the apartment, but the woman retrieved a real handgun and fired it. The bullet ricocheted and struck the boyfriend's face.
Police said alcohol was involved.
Karen Benjestorf, 37, of Rolling Hills Estates was arrested on suspicion of a negligent discharge of a firearm. Ronald Barker, 43, of Redondo Beach was arrested on suspicion of battery. Each was released after posting bail.
