Redondo Union state basketball champions to be honored with parade Thursday

A parade to honor of the Redondo Union High School Boys’ Basketball State Championship team will be held Thursday, March 28. The parade will begin at 3:15 p.m. at the parking lot of 200 Pacific Coast Highway, will circle the high school campus and end with a rally at the Redondo Beach Civic Center. Team members and coaching staff will ride in a double decker bus. The parade will also include police and fire escorts.

The program in front of City Hall will begin at 3:45 p.m. with comments from Mayor Mike Gin and School Board President Anita Avrick. Redondo Union cheerleaders and other student groups will help with the celebration. The program will conclude with Coach Reggie Morris Jr. introducing members of the coaching staff and team to their cheering fans.

Redondo Beach City Hall is located at 415 Diamond Street.

Residents and team supporters are invited to view the parade and attend the rally.

On Saturday, March 23, 2013 the Redondo Union boys’ basketball team made school history clinching a Division II State Championship with a 54-47 victory over College Park High School at Sleep Train Arena, home of the Sacramento Kings. The Redondo Union High School team (which was 10-17 the previous season) became state champions this year, finishing with a record of 28-8 lead by first-year Coach Reggie Morris Jr..
