The body of a Redondo Beach teenager was recovered in Lake Havasu by divers after he went missing following a boating incident earlier this week, authorities said.

The body of Adam Gomez, 17, was located by Mohave County Sheriff’s Office officials about 6:15 p.m. Friday night just south of Thompson Bay in approximately 23 feet of water, the sheriff’s office said.

Gomez had gone missing after he was involved in a boating incident Wednesday, Aug. 21, officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded Wednesday to the South Basin of Lake Havasu, just outside the No Wake Zone of Thompson Bay, on a report that a juvenile had been struck by a boat.

Deputies determined the 17-year-old, later identified as Gomez went into the water while the boat was moving and was struck by the propeller. Gomez then disappeared below the water’s surface and did not come back up, officials said.

Deputies asked the public to avoid the area shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies from the Office’s Division of Boating Safety and Dive Rescue and Recovery Team searched for the missing teen with help from the Lake Havasu City Police Department.

The boating safety division continued to investigate the incident.

“We wish to express our deepest condolences to the family,” the sheriff’s office said.

A GoFundMe to benefit the family of the Redondo Beach teenager has raised more than $6,000 in less than two days since it was created Aug. 26 toward a goal of $20,000.
