An array of kites filled the Redondo Beach skies Sunday afternoon — each boasting different colors, shapes and sizes. Some seemed to defy the odds by staying airborne.

But that’s nothing abnormal at the 45th Festival of the Kite at the Rednondo Beach Pier, one of the longest-running kite festivals in the country.

The festival coincided with Daylight Saving Time — and it took full advantage of the longer day.

Live music, a local dance studio performance, a martial arts demonstration, a hot-dog-on-a stick-eating contest and giveaways courtesy of Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital made for the perfect beach day.
