It’s just about a 3.5-mile walk from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back again.

But the nearly 17,000 community members who took that walk hope their steps will go along way to promote friendship, good will and cooperation — and to help children and others in need.

The annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk returned to the South Bay on Sunday, Oct. 27, hosted by Skechers USA and The Friendship Foundation.

This year's walk raised more than $2.2 million. Since its inception, the annual event has raised more than $13 million for education and children with special needs.

Founded in 2010 by the Greenberg Family, the foundation’s mission is: “to invest in organizations dedicated to embracing individuals with special needs, improving education and empowering disadvantage youth.”
