On every Sept. 11 anniversary, Robinson Elementary School students, teachers and parents start the day paying tribute to community servants. It's a colorful display of red, white and blue as local police and fire personnel participate in helping students understand the importance of being a good citizen.
Manhattan Beach Police Department Honor Guard was on hand to raise the flag, student winners recited their "Proud to be an American" essays and groups of first graders and kindergartners posed with Manhattan Beach Fire Department engines. Battalion Chief Ron Laursen and a student rang the ceremonial Bell of Hope to signal another year of patriotism and good will.
