The two men found dead on Torrance Beach last week have been identified.

The two men were discovered on the sand Friday morning, Aug. 30, by a passerby near Via Riviera at the 300 block of Paseo de la Playa.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office on Tuesday, Sept. 3, identified the two men as 22-year-old Daniel Pedro Alarid, a transient, and 34-year-old Brian Rodriguez, of Redondo Beach.

Torrance police have not disclosed how the two died. But on Friday, Sgt. Alexander Martinez said that investigators found no obvious signs of trauma on the bodies.

Nina Akiaten, who frequents Torrance Beach, on Friday said she saw the bodies being covered by authorities at around 7:30 a.m. She said she saw one of the men, who looked to be in his 30s, fully clothed and laying on a blanket.

The investigation on the sand went on for hours Friday morning. Multiple beachgoers said that violence for the area is rare.
