Hermosa Beach City School District Superintendent Pat Escalante recently received two prestigious honors.

Escalante was named Association of California Administrators Region 14 Superintendent of the Year and the South Bay ACSA Region 14 Superintendent of the Year for 2019 last week. The ACSA Region 14 includes more than two dozen other school districts in Southern California.

Escalante said her pathway to becoming superintendent, which started in Beverly Hills, “was not traditional” and “didn’t fit the mold.”

“I was a stay at home mom for 19 years and when I returned to education, I went back to college to earn my administration degree and MA,” Escalante said. “There are many people who have championed me along the way and when I think of this honor, I will always think of them and be truly grateful.”

Escalante has been superintendent in Hermosa Beach, which includes Hermosa View School (grades K-3) and Hermosa Valley School (grades 4-8), for seven years.
