Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating a man who allegedly tried to sexually assault a teen girl after masturbating in front of her and two friends in Manhattan Beach on Friday, March 2.

According to Manhattan Beach police, the 16-year-old girl and her two teenaged female friends were walking through the parking lot of the Von's grocery story at 410 Manhattan Beach Blvd. They observed a male suspect masturbating in his car. The man called out to the girls, but they ignored him and continued walking into the store. They stayed inside the store until they thought the suspect had left the area.

The girls left the store and walked south on Valley Drive. As they approached Third Street, the same suspect came up from behind them and shoved one of them to the ground, police said. Once on the ground, he held the girl’s legs and touched her genital area on top of her clothing.

One of the girls fought the suspect, punching him until he released the downed girl. All three girls fled the area on foot and called 911. As seen in the video, the suspect got back into his vehicle and drove off south on Valley Drive.

The suspect was described as an Asian, Latino or Middle Eastern man with a dark complexion, between 20 and 30 years old. He was last seen wearing a red-and-black flannel shirt. His car was described as a dark-colored, four-door sedan with an Uber sticker on the passenger side of the windshield.

At 9:50 p.m. the same night, MBPD received a call of a male exposing himself in the area of 13th and Flournoy. The suspect’s description and vehicle description are the same as the sexual assault at 2nd Street and Valley Drive.

In one of the videos, the three girls are seen walking along Valley Drive with the suspect running after them a short time later. The other video shows an Uber sticker in the suspect's front passenger side window and a second Uber sticker on the rear passenger side window.

MBPD is asking residents who live between the 100 to 1000 blocks of Valley Drive as well as the 3300 block of Flournoy Road to the 3500 block of Flournoy Road to check their home video surveillance for additional footage of the suspect or his vehicle that might help in the investigation.

If you have any information in regard to this sexual assault, please call Detective Aleina Smith at (310) 802-5133 or the Manhattan Beach Police Department Tip Line at (310) 802-5171.
