Under the influence

A man was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance at Inglewood Avenue and 190th Street on March 19. Officers observed the man staggering and he appeared to be yelling at no one while swinging his arms. According to police, he appeared paranoid, claiming people were chasing him. He admitted to using drugs and was found in possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

Suicide

A man reportedly committed suicide at a hotel in the 2400 block of Marine Avenue on March 31. The man was found unresponsive and with a suicide note, according to police. Detectives assisted and a CSI officer processed the scene.

Vehicle pursuit

When a motorcyclist ran a red light at a high rate of speed at Maria Avenue and Diamond Street on March 31, a high speed pursuit ensued with police which ended in a crash. The pursuit started in Redondo Beach and then through Torrance and Lomita, then back to Torrance. Police said the suspect “drove at high speeds and through red lights in a reckless manner with wanton and willful disregard for the safety of the public.” When he attempted to make a u-turn at Camino Real and Knob Hill, he lost control and crashed. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a hospital for treatment for collision injuries.

Residential burglary

A home was burglarized in the 2100 block of Marshallfield Lane on March 30 when the victims were out of town. A relative of the victims went to pick up their mail and found the residence had been ransacked and burglarized.

Warrant arrest

A man with two warrants was arrested in the 2500 block of Marine Avenue on March 28. The man was stopped by police when he failed to stop for a red light while riding his bicycle on the roadway. The suspect was stopped and was found to have a $225,000 warrant for his arrest and another for a felony no-bail.

A male suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and burglary tools at 190th Street and Pacific Coast Highway on March 29. The bicyclist was being stopped for a vehicle code violation when he was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant.

Brandishing a weapon

A man was arrested for brandishing a knife in the 1800 block of Hawthorne Boulevard on March 29. The suspect had made threatening gestures with the knife, according to the victim.

Grand theft

A man witnessed his bike being stolen in the 1900 block of Pacific Coast Highway on March 29. He told police he had parked his bicycle, valued at approximately $3,500, in front of a business and went inside. Through the window, he saw a subject ride by on a Strand Cruiser. A moment later he saw the same person ride by on his bicycle. He gave chase on foot, but lost the suspect in Torrance.
