Four South Bay restaurants have just received one of the highest culinary honors in the land.

Manhattan Beach Post, Baran's 2239 in Hermosa Beach, and Coni'Seafood in Inglewood were named with dozens of other restaurants to the 2019 Michelin Guide California, it was announced Tuesday.

The restaurants were named in the Bib Gourmand category which “highlights restaurants that serve high-quality meals which include two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less,” according to a press release.

“It wasn't something that I was expecting,” said MB Post chef/owner David LeFevre, who was in the Michelin Guide in 2007 and 2008 with his Los Angeles restaurant Water Grill.

LeFevre said it was in 2008 that the Michelin Guide last reviewed Los Angeles restaurants.

“It's a great accolade, it's a great tip to the hat to the work that our team has done, to the general manager (Russell Choi) at Post, to the chefs at Post,” LeFevre said. “It's exciting to be back.”

Michelin publishes 32 guides annually in more than two dozen countries, including four guides in the United States, according to a press release.

"Our inspectors were very impressed by the diversity of cuisine and culinary trends that they have seen across the Bib Gourmand selection in California, and it's great to see that many of these restaurants take advantage of the fantastic local produce available throughout the state," said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, in a statement.

On Monday, June 3, in Huntington Beach, the complete selection in the 2019 Michelin Guide California, along with Michelin stars, will be announced. The guide will be available for purchase on June 6.
