Ashley's Deli in Hermosa Beach has been serving up some of the South Bay's favorite sandwiches for 20 years, but now the eatery will close its doors for good on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Kristine Ashley said the deli has been a family business, but with “mixed emotions,” it's time for a new chapter in their lives. She said she will be spending more time with family before that next chapter begins.

“We can no longer to afford to stay in business, so we're packing up and moving on... there are no immediate plans to reopen, but there's talk about a food truck maybe in the near future,” Ashley said.

Ashley has run the deli with the help of her parents, including her retired father Larry Shelton, who works the front counter.

“Everybody who works here are either family or friends of family, that's why we've been here for 20 years,” Ashley said.

Ashley also thanked her loyal and supportive customers.

“Hermosa is very loyal to the local businesses,” Ashley said. “We wouldn't have made it this long without all of the support from the neighborhood. Honestly I'm super grateful for that. I guess we're a dying legacy. Our customers will come over and ask for a cup of sugar or do you have an avocado?... you just don't get that anymore.”

Shelton added Ashley's Deli has also been in business for two decades because they offered a “quality product.”

“We've been the best of the best for deli sandwiches in the South Bay for years,” Shelton said.

Ashley's Deli, located at 828 Hermosa Ave., will close to the public on Aug. 15.
